Frequently Asked Questions

Learning to drive is a big milestone, and it’s normal to have questions. This page gives you clear, no-nonsense answers about how our courses work, what to expect, and how we help you pass both your theory and practical tests.

Browse the FAQs below and book your course with confidence.

What is an intensive driving course?

An intensive driving course is a programme designed to help learners reach test standard in a short period of time, usually within one or two weeks. Instead of spreading lessons over months, you complete focused daily training with an instructor to build skills quickly and confidently.

Intensive driving courses combine structured daily driving lessons with theory test preparation. At 5Day, you complete five days of in-car tuition, online theory training and full support through your DVSA tests. Once you’re ready, book a driving test and then inform 5day via email of date and time, we will then arrange your car hire and instructor to present you to test

Most intensive courses last one or two weeks. The 5Day Intensive Driving Course helps learners progress to test readiness within just five days of training, with further support as needed until you pass.

Yes. Automatic intensive driving courses are available at many 5Day centres across the UK. This is ideal for learners who want a simpler driving experience or prefer automatic vehicles.

Intensive courses are often more effective for learners who want to progress quickly without forgetting skills between lessons. They also help many people save money compared to taking lessons spread over several months..

Intensive driving courses help you learn faster and retain skills more effectively by providing focused, daily training. Unlike weekly lessons, they reduce the gaps between sessions, build confidence quickly, and can often save time and money while preparing you for your driving test efficiently.

Can I change my course date once it is booked?

Yes, you can reschedule your course, provided it’s more than four weeks before the start date. This allows us to coordinate with your instructor. Once booked, your course is guaranteed to go ahead – unlike many other intensive schools, we rarely cancel unless there are exceptional circumstances.

We aren’t able to discount the price of the course if you’ve already passed your theory test. As such, the 5Day course may not offer the best value for you, as it’s designed to combine theory and practical training for optimal results.

You’re still welcome to book the course, and we recommend attending the online theory sessions to stay up to date with current driving laws.

Yes, but our contract is with the student, regardless of who pays for the course. To discuss course details or progress, the student must provide written permission. This ensures privacy and allows us to securely verify your identity before sharing any information.

Will I have my practical driving test at the end of the 5Day course?

No, the course does not include an automatic test at the end. A practical test is only arranged by the learner once a DVSA-approved 5Day instructor confirms you are ready. You are free to book a test in your own vehicle if you wish.

Due to ongoing DVSA delays, test availability can sometimes take months. Our dedicated team offer help and guidance to learners but learners must book and manage their own tests.

It depends on the individual. Everyone learns at a different pace, and some may need extra practice or lessons after the course to reach test standard. On average, first-time passers are people who have continued practising after the course while they wait for their test date.

For complete beginners, we do offer a 10-day course with 40 hours of driving over two weeks, providing additional training and support. Call 01603 616909 to find out more.

An intensive driving course is a great way to gain experience and confidence quickly, speeding up your ability to control a car and gain road knowledge. This amount of experience would normally take months using private weekly lessons.

Not at all. You now know how to drive! Our advice will always be to keep practising with a parent or a friend until your driving test and keep building on the skills you have been taught.

5Day does not conduct the driving tests, the DVSA does.

In line with DVSA regulations, practical driving tests must be purchased and booked directly by the learner through the official DVSA booking system. Once you have reached test standard, we will support you through the booking process, advise on suitable test centres and timings, and ensure you are fully prepared to secure a test as soon as availability becomes available.

Is the 5Day course a guarantee that I will pass, and will I be a great driver at the end of it?

No course can guarantee you will pass, but 5Day ensures you will become a noticeably better and safer driver by the end of your training.

If you fail your driving test, you can take free corrective lessons to address the areas you need to improve before rebooking your test.

Please note, if you apply for a new test and retake immediately, you can’t do the free corrective lessons too.
