What is an intensive driving course?

An intensive driving course is a fast-track way to learn to drive. Rather than taking weekly lessons over several months, you’ll complete focused daily training with an instructor over a shorter period, helping you build skills, confidence and experience more quickly.

At 5Day, this is combined with theory test training and dedicated support to help you progress towards becoming a safe and confident driver.

1. Choose a location and start date that works for you.

2. Complete a short questionnaire so we can match you with the right instructor.

3. Meet your instructor and complete an initial driving assessment.

4. Complete 5 days of intensive driving tuition and theory training.

5. Pass your theory test with support from our in-house theory trainers.

6. Get test-ready with final practical sessions focused on polishing your skills.

7. Book your practical test once your instructor confirms you’re ready.

8. Take your test with your instructor and a 5Day vehicle.

9. Receive free corrective lessons if needed (T&Cs apply).
Our intensive courses are designed for learners who want fast, focused and consistent training.

Before booking, it’s important to consider whether daily in-car tuition and theory sessions suit your learning style and availability.

As the programme is intensive, we’re unable to offer refunds if you later feel the format is too demanding – so it’s worth taking a moment to make sure it’s the right fit for you.
Absolutely. Many of our learners are complete beginners when they join us.

Our experienced instructors are used to working with nervous learners and will tailor lessons to your individual pace, helping you build skills and confidence in a supportive, encouraging environment.

Yes, it is still very much worthwhile. While you do not need to retake the test, theory training strengthens your knowledge, boosts your confidence, and helps you become a safer, smarter driver.

Yes. Automatic intensive driving courses are available at many 5Day locations across the UK. This is ideal for learners who want a simpler driving experience or prefer automatic vehicles.

Intensive driving courses are ideal for learners who want to progress quickly and build confidence in a shorter period of time. With focused daily training, you can develop and retain your driving skills more effectively, without the long gaps between lessons that can lead to lost confidence or forgotten techniques.

Yes. Many of our learners come to us after previously failing a driving test for concentrated upskilling or after a gap in their learning journey.

Our intensive courses are designed to help you refresh your skills, rebuild confidence, and focus on the areas that may have held you back previously. Your instructor will tailor the training to your experience level, helping you make fast, focused progress.

If you’re unsuccessful again, we’ll provide free corrective lessons on major faults, subject to the original test being booked on a DVSA 5Day instructor’s advisory, to help you prepare for your next attempt.
Whether you’ve had one lesson, ten lessons, or even dozens, our course is designed to meet you where you are and move you towards test readiness efficiently.

We’ll take your previous experience into account and tailor your training accordingly, so you can focus on the skills you need most and avoid spending time on things you’ve already mastered.
At 5DAY, you’re supported by more than just your driving instructor.

From day one, you’ll have access to our dedicated customer support team, as well as our in-house theory trainers, who will help you prepare for and pass your theory test. Whatever stage you’re at, there’s always someone on hand to help.

Can I change my course date once it is booked?

Yes, you can reschedule your course, provided you give us at least four weeks’ notice before your start date. This gives us enough time to make the necessary arrangements with your instructor and adjust our schedules accordingly.

Once your course is confirmed, you can book with confidence. Unlike many intensive driving schools, we very rarely cancel courses and will only do so in exceptional circumstances beyond our control.
Unfortunately, we aren’t able to offer a reduced course price if you’ve already passed your theory test, as the theory training and support form part of our complete 5Day programme.

You’re still very welcome to book the course, and many learners who have already passed their theory test choose to do so. We also recommend attending the online theory sessions, as they’re a great way to refresh your knowledge and stay up to date with the latest Highway Code rules and driving regulations.

Yes, but our contract is with the student, regardless of who pays for the course. To discuss course details or progress, the student must provide written permission. This ensures privacy and allows us to securely verify your identity before sharing any information.

You can secure your place in two ways:

  • Pay in full at the time of booking, or
  • Pay a £200 deposit if your course is more than 4 weeks away, with the remaining balance due 4 weeks before your start date.

No. Our expert in-house theory trainers will teach, prepare, and support you to pass your theory test with confidence, so there’s no need to have it completed before joining the course.

How do you match me with the right instructor?

Before your course begins, we’ll ask you to complete a short questionnaire so we can get to know your experience, confidence level and learning style.

Using your answers, we’ll personally match you with an instructor who is best suited to your needs, helping you get the most from your course and progress as quickly as possible.
Our dedicated customer support team is here to help throughout your journey.

Whether you have a question about your training, theory test, practical test, or anything else related to your course, simply get in touch and we’ll be happy to assist.

With over 20 locations nationwide, we use convenient meeting points near well-known places such as supermarkets, coffee shops and retail parks.

These locations are easy to access and are chosen to make your lessons as convenient as possible.

Please note that we do not offer home pick-ups, so you’ll need to make your own way to the agreed meeting point before your lesson.
Yes. Extra practice with a family member or friend can be a great way to build confidence and further develop your skills.

Just make sure the person supervising you is legally allowed to supervise a learner driver and that the vehicle is properly insured for learner driving.

All of our instructors are fully qualified, DVSA-approved professionals with extensive experience teaching learners of all ages and abilities. They have helped thousands of learners progress from complete beginners to qualified drivers, and will tailor their teaching approach to suit your individual needs, experience level and learning style.

A typical day includes a practical driving lesson with your instructor, focused on building your skills and working through the DVSA syllabus. You’ll also attend an online theory training session with our in-house trainers to help you prepare for your theory test.

As the week progresses, your training will be tailored to the areas where you need the most support, helping you build confidence and become test-ready.

Will I have my practical driving test at the end of the 5Day course?

No, the purpose of the 5Day course is to help you reach test standard as quickly and safely as possible. Once your instructor is confident that you are ready, you will be able to book your practical driving test.

As of 12 May 2026, driving schools and instructors are no longer permitted to book practical driving tests on behalf of learners. This means you will need to arrange your test directly with the DVSA once you are ready.

Your instructor will advise you on when they believe you have reached the required standard, helping you avoid taking your test before you’re fully prepared.

We do not offer a guaranteed pass after 5 Days. Nor do any other providers, despite what they may say. Our DVSA-approved instructors will make an assessment of your readiness to book after 5 Days. If you are not ready, we can organise additional lessons with our instructors and have them support you further towards test readiness.

Not at all. You now know how to drive! Our advice will always be to keep practising with a parent or a friend until your driving test and keep building on the skills you have been taught.

Yes. If we approve you as test-ready and you don’t pass your first practical test while using our vehicle, we’ll continue to support you every step of the way by focusing on your major faults.

We’ll provide free corrective lessons focused on the areas highlighted by the examiner, helping you improve your skills and prepare for your next attempt.

Learning to drive is a journey, and not passing first time doesn’t mean the end of the road. We’ll help you understand what went wrong, address any weak areas, and get you back on track towards passing your test.

Driving test waiting times vary depending on your chosen test centre and the availability in your area.

As of 12th May 2026, driving schools and instructors can no longer book practical driving tests on behalf of learners. This means all learners must book and pay for their own test directly through the DVSA.

We’ll guide you through the process, advise you on when you’re ready to book and support you every step of the way, but the test booking itself must be made by you.

It depends on the individual. Everyone learns at a different pace, and some may need extra practice or lessons after the course to reach test standard. On average, first-time passers are people who have continued practising after the course while they wait for their test date.

For complete beginners, we do offer a 10-day course with 40 hours of driving over two weeks, providing additional training and support. Call 01603 616909 to find out more.
