Sheldon accident Cyclist fighting for life after collision
A cyclist is fighting for his life in hospital after suffering serious head injuries in a collision which caused major traffic disruption in Birmingham.
The man, believed to be a contract worker at a nearby Jaguar Land Rover plant, was badly hurt when his bike was involved in an accident with a Toyota car on A45 Coventry Road in Sheldon at the junction of Horsehoes Lane just before 6am this morning.
Lengthy tailbacks formed in and out of the city and both lanes on the Coventry Road were closed for several hours.
Bus services were also diverted.
West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses to the accident.
A spokeswoman said: “The male cyclist was in collision with a silver Toyota which was heading out of city and was taken to hospital with serious head injuries.”
West Midlands Police said anyone who saw the incident should contact the force’s collision investigation unit on 101.
